Longines to present Dubai Sheema Classic Mar 24, 2024

Luxury Swiss Watchmaker Longines is to present the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic, taking place at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, March 30th.

Longines Dubai Sheema Classic is one of the top races in the card of the Dubai World Cup night and throughout the world. In 2023 it was won by Japanese star Equinox; later crowned Longines IFHA World’s Best Racehorse, while the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic was judged the second-best race in the world, narrowly missing out to the Japan Cup.

The event established in 1996, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, underscores Dubai's position as a hub for global sporting events. As one of the most notable races on the international calendar, the Dubai World Cup highlights the city's commitment to excellence and innovation. Longines’ support reflects Dubai's status as a destination of choice for world-class entertainment, further solidifying its reputation on the global stage.

Longines, which has been based at Saint-Imier, Switzerland, since 1832, is one of the world’s best-known watchmakers. Their support of equestrian sport is global and extends to Endurance and Show Jumping, while their backing of Dubai Racing Club includes presenting two meetings during the Dubai Racing Carnival.

“Longines is deeply honored to be an integral part of this esteemed event. As Official Partner, Official Timekeeper, and Official Watch of the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic, we are extremely proud to reinforce our commitment to horseracing and enhance our rich heritage. Our involvement in equestrian sports is a perfect match for the brand's image and philosophy, as we share similar values - Performance, Elegance, and Tradition.” Longines CEO, Matthias Breschan, said.

“Longines have been a fantastic supporter of racing and equestrian sport in Dubai for a long time,” said Major General Dr Mohammed Essa Al Adhab, Executive Director of Dubai Racing Club. “Longines timepieces are synonymous with excellence and beauty and are therefore a good fit for racing. We look forward to welcoming the team and their guests back to Meydan Racecourse for one of the best days of racing on the calendar, at which we will see the talents of horses, trainers and jockeys from all over the world.

“We are very proud of the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic, which is regularly ranked one of the best turf races in the world. We are confident that this year’s line-up looks just as strong and it will be another exciting race.”

The Longines Dubai Sheema Classic is scheduled as race eight of nine, with a post time of 8pm UAE.
