DP World to sponsor Group 1 Dubai Turf on Dubai World Cup card Mar 24, 2024

Leading smart logistic solutions provider DP World are to sponsor the $5million Dubai Turf, one of six Group 1 contests on the Dubai World Cup card taking place at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday, March 30th.

The event established in 1996, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, underscores Dubai's position as a hub for global sporting events. As one of the most notable races on the international calendar, the Dubai World Cup highlights the city's commitment to excellence and innovation. DP World’s support reflects Dubai's status as a destination of choice for world-class entertainment, further solidifying its reputation on the global stage.

One of the most prestigious turf races in the world, the G1 Dubai Turf is run over the slightly unusual distance of 1800metres. Inaugurated in 1996, it has an international role of honour, with horses from South Africa, the UK, Japan, France and the UAE winning it over the past two decades. In the past three years it has been won by the John and Thady Gosden-trained Lord North, who dead-heated with Panthalassa in 2022 and won outright in 2021 and 2023.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said: “We are proud of our long-running association with the Dubai World Cup and this year will be celebrating a decade as a Pillar Partner of the event. The Dubai World Cup is a highlight on the global racing calendar that brings the world to our city, and we look forward to the fans, our customers and the Dubai community experiencing the thrill of the Dubai Turf.”

Welcoming DP World back to Meydan Racecourse, Major General Mohammed Dr Essa Al Adhab, Executive Director of Dubai Racing Club, said: “DP World have been longstanding supporters of sport in Dubai, through their backing of golf and horse racing, in particular. We value their support of one of our most famous races and hope that their team and their guests have a wonderful afternoon at the Dubai World Cup.”

The G1 Dubai Turf [Sponsored by DP World] is scheduled as race seven of nine with a post time of 7:10pm UAE.
