Saeed bin Suroor and Godolphin dominated last week’s 1m2f Group 3 Bahrain International Trophy, Dubai Future denying stablemate Passion And Glory, the pair taking control after fellow Godolphin contender, Magny Cours, cried enough inside the final furlong, eventually losing third place close home.
It was a memorable 12- from the Bin Suroor duo, both of whom were prominent throughout with Passion And Glory and Richard Kingscote tracking and Magny Cours in second, with Dubai Future disputing third on the inside rail. Magny Cours kicked for home in the straight as Passion And Glory and Dubai Future laid down strong challenges to join the early leader entering the final furlong.
Dubai Future opened up a narrow advantage for Danny Tudhope half a furlong out and found plenty to see off his rallying stablemate for a cosy success. Riocorvo took third near the line, a head in front of fourth home Magny Cours. Saeed bin Suroor said: “We have tried to win this race for the last two years and it’s a good result for Godolphin to have the first and second.
“Dubai Future has improved a lot this year, winning at Royal Ascot, and he looks better physically and mentally compared to 12 months ago. We felt that he was the right horse to come back here and he ran a big race.” Danny Tudhope added: “Godolphin had a strong hand in the race and I am delighted that one of them won, thankfully, it was me! I was hopeful with Dubai Future.
His last run at Newbury wasn’t too bad and he likes fast going. “He is a handy little horse who loves whizzing round a bend and the race went to plan. We went an even gallop and I had a nice position. We had a better draw compared to last year and he picked up well.
He was just doing what he had to do in front.” Dubai Future, a 6yo Dubawi gelding, has competed at Meydan’s Dubai World Cup Carnival in each of the last three seasons, his three Dubai victories highlighted by a pair of Listed contests, and will surely be back next year for the international extravaganza.
