BOUGHEY BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH DUBAI SQUAD

BOUGHEY BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH DUBAI SQUAD Dec 8, 2022

George Boughey, arguably the brightest rising star within the British Flat training ranks, is set to have his first runners in Dubai at next year's Dubai World Cup Carnival. Newmarket-based Boughey, 30, is planning to bring up to three horses to Dubai which could include exciting 2yo Al Dasim. He has won two of his three races since being transferred to the Boughey stable, most recently striding to an impressive three and a quarter length victory at Wolverhampton last month. Boughey’s team also includes Spangled Mac, a four times a winner this summer as well as being runner-up in a Shergar Cup event for international jockeys at Ascot in August. The third potential member of the Boughey raiding party is another 2yo Perdika, who has won three of her four races. A final decision on her inclusion in the Dubai team will be made after she runs at Kempton this week. Boughey, whose team will be flown out at the end of December, said: “There are a few things to sort out but we could send a team of three horses to give it a go. The main one will be Al Dasim, who was a good winner on his last start and has won his last two. He will go for a 3yo turf campaign but his owner (Sheikh Abdullah Almarek Alsabah) has horses in Saudi Arabia and dirt is something we will consider. “Spangled Mac is rated in the high 90s and is pretty versatile. He could run over six or seven furlongs or a mile. He needs fast ground and wheel spins when there is any give in the ground. “Perdika has won her last three. She will probably be favourite again this week and has already earned £71,000 in (breeders’) bonuses in a month so that has kind of paid for her trip.” Boughey was also planning to bring his dual Group Three winning filly Oscula to Dubai where she would have been a candidate for races like the Balanchine. But that plan has been shelved after the consistent performer was sold for €1 million at the Arcana Sale at Deauville on Saturday. Boughey, who is only in his third full season since beginning training, has achieved a number of milestones during 2022. He has topped 100 winners in Britain for the first time and is closing in on £2 million in prize money. He landed his first Classic when James Doyle-ridden Cachet won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in May and also had two successes at Royal Ascot. The success has seen a clutch of new clients send horses to the Boughey stable, including the Shadwell Stud. Boughey added: “It is a huge compliment to all my other owners and staff to have attracted the attention of Sheikha Hissa and her team. “We have four yearlings for next year and a mixture of early and late types. It is a real honour to be considered to train some of their horses.”
