Owen Burrows added the Prix d’Ispahan to his career Group One haul at Longchamp Monday evening, Anmaat supplying the British trainer only his third top-tier success when winning the 1900m contest in the French capital.

A week shy of a year since he claimed his first ever Group One with Hukum in the Coronation Cup at Epsom, the Shadwell owned 5yo Awtaad gelding, winner of the Group 2 Prix Dollar at the same venue in October, supplied Burrows with a third top-level win with a gritty performance under Shadwell’s first choice rider Jim Crowley.

The pair were settled at the rear, with Crowley popping the question 500m out. Once he got the orders, Anmaat started to stretch and came under pressure throughout but was a clear neck ahead of Light Infantry, trained by David Simcock and ridden by Jamie Spencer. A further hose back in third was Facteur Cheval for J Reynier and Gerald Mosse.

The win, Anmaat’s seventh in 12 starts, saw him return to winning ways after his two and a half length defeat by former Epsom Derby winner Adayar in the Group 3 Gordon Richard Stakes at Newmarket on 7 May.
