It was all about Lahfaty for the Australian, who said: “She’s a nice filly and she’s been great for the stable this year. She’s still a work in progress and she still hasn’t quite mastered running through the lines. She’s still looking at things and hence the headgear. “I think with a nice summer off she’ll strengthen up well and I think we might have stretched her out to seven which might not be her cup of tea at this stage. I think a sharp six furlongs (1200m), where we saw her really brilliant at Meydan, is perfect for her, so we’ll have her run at 1200m or 1400m back at Meydan next year.” The Al Wasl Classic for colts and geldings was won by Ahmad bin Harmash’s Rasas, who travelled smoothly under Connor Beasley and stole the lead 250m out off Quartier. Knowing he had plenty of horse left under him, Beasley rode in a gallant three quarters of a length winner with Quartier filling in as the runner-up for trainer Julio Olascoaga and jockey Jose da Silva. The Jebel Ali Classic, the third of the 1400m Conditions affairs, was claimed by Doug Watson-trained veteran Al Tariq, who had hit the crossbar thrice this season and was back in the winners’ enclosure for the first time since his victory in the 2022 G3 Dubawi Stakes at Meydan. Al Tariq, the ride of Pat Dobbs, managed to stick his neck ahead on the line, claiming what was his sixth career success with a gritty effort that denied Costa-trained Yonafis (Coen) on the line. The victory margin was a short head with Everfast, a further lengthand-a-quarter back in third for Watson and Sam Hitchcott. Gabriele Malune claimed a third winner of the campaign after guiding owner-trainer Marwan Al Baidhaei’s Major Cinnamon to his second success of the season when winning the Sukoon Takaful Stakes, a 0-100 handicap run as a 1000m sprint.
